RE: REDEPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AT NYPD PRECINCTS

Please read the following statement from the NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT (NYPD):

NYPD custodians are on the new front line in this prolonged crisis. This job has become so much more than ensuring a clean environment. Our custodians are now responsible for keeping the men and women of the NYPD safe. The police – who ensure the safety of all New Yorkers – now rely on our custodians for their safety and, in turn, the safety of their families. Our custodians are part of a great tradition and a great family. We are protectors of the city. To accomplish this, we must first protect each other. In this time of crisis, we are reaching out to you to help combat this pandemic that affects us all. We’re looking for additional cleaners to lend assistance to NYPD officers who are fighting the fight on the front line. By volunteering to work with the NYPD, you will assist more than 35,000 uniform members of service do what they do for you every day, protect the City of New York. Now more than ever is the time to come together as one City #NYStrong, #CLEANNYC

In collaboration with the NYPD, NYCSSS is calling for cleaners to help clean and disinfect police precincts across the five boroughs of New York City. If you volunteer and are chosen for this temporary assignment:

1) you will be paid the same rate of pay as you are currently earning, but instead of reporting to your assigned school, you will report to a police precinct; 2) you will be placed at a precinct that is convenient for your needs; 3) you will work a day shift from 7 am to 3:30 pm, with OT opportunities possible on an as-needed basis; 4) you will be provided with all necessary PPE (personal protective equipment), including masks, face covering, aprons/suits and gloves; 5) when the assignment is over, you will return to your regular school building with no loss of seniority or break in service; and 6) your pay and benefits with 32BJ will not be changed in any way.

We will accept the first 50 people who volunteer. If more than 50 people volunteer than the first 50 will be chosen by seniority. Lastly, please note that if you are currently working at a Department of Education Regional Enrichment (REC) Center, you are not eligible to volunteer for this role. Please send an email to us at humanresources@nycsss.org as soon as possible if you are interested.

Your email to us must include:

a) your name and employee ID;

b) current school assignment;

c) your current schedule and hours per week;

d) your statement of interest in volunteering for this temporary assignment.

Thank you for your hard work during these difficult times.
